A non-conventional quality control system to detect surface faults in mechanical front seals

چکیده
The Just in Time and the Total Quality policies have remarkably touched every field of modern industrial production. This context prompts companies to dedicate most of their efforts on researching and developing automatic systems of quality control to obtain the elevated standards of quality nowadays demanded by the market at every level of production. In fact the quantity of the exemplars allowed, which are not up to sample, is measured in parts per million in many sectors of production. Many methodologies have been proposed to yield high quality in the industrial production lines, in order to provide surface examination and classification. This paper describes an alternative system for surface analysis based on artificial neural networks (ANNs), developed in collaboration with the Italian manufacturer ‘‘Meccanotecnica Umbra S.p.A’’. This system was implemented and tested in order to examine three particular surfaces of mechanical seals achieving good results in comparison with the deterministic system already implemented. r 2007 Elsevier Ltd. Flow Seals Parameters Analysis For Rotors
The interaction of work fluid mechanics with that of the rotary system itself, basically composed of axes, bearings and rotors, is performed by inserting equivalent dynamic coefficients in the mathematical model of the rotor, the latter being obtained by the finite element method. In this paper, the dynamic coefficients of inertia, stiffness and damping of the flat seals analyzed here are evalu...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Disk Type Variable Reluctance Resolver under Mechanical and Electrical Faults
Disk Type Variable Reluctance (DTVR) resolvers have distinguished performance under run out fault comparing to conventional sinusoidal rotor resolvers. However, their accuracy under inclined rotor fault along with different types of eccentricities includes static and dynamic eccentricities are questioned. Furthermore, due to thin copper wires that are used for signal and excitation coils of res...
متن کاملDetection of Single and Dual Incipient Process Faults Using an Improved Artificial Neural Network
Changes in the physicochemical conditions of process unit, even under control, may lead to what are generically referred to as faults. The cognition of causes is very important, because the system can be diagnosed and fault tolerated. In this article, we discuss and propose an artificial neural network that can detect the incipient and gradual faults either individually or mutually. The mai...
متن کاملA new method for filtering speckle noise in vibration signals measured by Laser Doppler Vibrometry for on-line quality control
Mechanical fault diagnostics for quality control of manufacturing appliances is often based on the analysis of machine vibrations. In the presence of mechanical faults, vibration signals comprise periodic impulses with a characteristic frequency corresponding to a particular defect. Vibrometers based on LDV (Laser Doppler Vibrometry) are an alternative to the traditional use of piezo-electric a...
متن کاملAnalytical Analysis of The Dual-phase-lag Heat Transfer Equation in a Finite Slab with Periodic Surface Heat Flux (RESEARCH NOTE)
This work uses the dual-phase-lag (DPL) model of heat conduction to demonstrate the effect of temperature gradient relaxation time on the result of non-Fourier hyperbolic conduction in a finite slab subjected to a periodic thermal disturbance. DPL model combines the wave features of hyperbolic conduction with a diffusion-like feature of the evidence not captured by the hyperbolic case. For the ...
